ISBM Education and Training Committee

b

Aims of the Education and Training (E&T) Committee, ISBM

The main objective of the Education and Training activities of the ISBM is to facilitate international cooperation in education and training within the field of behavioural medicine.

1. Web-based information exchange
The website on the ISBM homepage provides the opportunity for a regular exchange of information. Links to related websites, useful teaching materials, reference book list, and notifications about cooperation projects might be placed on it.

2. Organising E&T activities at ISBM conferences
There is a clear need for detailed discussion of Education and Training issues on a regular basis.  To this purpose, besides the teaching seminars, special E&T focused meetings will be organized during the ISBM conferences.

3. Organising Regional and Local Teaching Seminars
Previous experience shows that teaching seminars are more successful if organised locally: in addition to ISBM experts, the faculty should include local experts. A careful need assessment and problem identification in each country is necessary for effective planning. The E&T committee members are coming from different regions in order to represent the diversity of cultural backgrounds and educational needs when planning regional or local teaching seminars. The possibility of involving WHO in these seminars is explored.
Such local/regional seminars were organized with success in Bangkok (Thailand), in Venezuela, in Budapest (Hungary), in Mexico City (Mexico), and Targu Mures (Romania).
